Ned Kelly the man was a 19th century Australian bushranger with a complicated reputation. Officials considered him a notorious gangster, thief and murderer – an outlaw like Jesse James. Sympathizers saw him as an underdog, a Robin Hood-style folk hero and a cultural icon of the resistance.
